Inventory Item Setup - Item Groups

Overview:

The setup feature for Inventory Items contains multiple tabs and there are quite a few fields on each tab. To keep our articles concise, we have therefore created multiple help articles to cover all aspects of the inventory item setup feature.  This article will focus on the Inventory Item Groups tab on the Inventory Item Setup feature.

Things to Know!

  • The use of Inventory Groups is optional.
  • Inventory Groups enable you to put "like" inventory items into a common group for reporting, listing, or transaction entry.
  • An inventory item can belong to multiple Inventory Groups. For example, if ground beef is assigned to a "Meat" Inventory Group for reporting purposes, and you also want to count ground beef weekly, then you could create a "Weekly Count" Group and also assign ground beef to this group.
  • Inventory Item Groups are set up via Inventory>Setup>Inventory Groups. Inventory Groups must first be set up in order to assign an Inventory Item to a Group.
  • Inventory Items can also be assigned to Inventory Groups via the Inventory Group Setup feature.
  • For more information on setting up inventory groups, please see the help article on Inventory Group Setup

Inventory Item Setup - Inventory Item Groups Tab:

The use of Inventory Groups is optional in COGS-Well. Inventory Groups allow you to group "like" Inventory Items for reporting, listing, and/or transaction entry purposes. One Inventory Item can be assigned to multiple Inventory Groups.

For example, you can enter inventory counts by selecting a group. If you have an item such as ground beef that you count more frequently than other items, then you could set up a "Daily Counts" Item Group and assign ground beef to this group.

To provide another example for using groups, if you want to run reports for a select group of items, such as your meat items, you can also set up a group called "Meat" and assign ground beef and other meats to this group.

In the Inventory Item Setup feature, the Inventory Item Groups tab is located to the right of the Item tab. If we select the Item Groups tab we will see a display similar to below:

Available and Selected: In the example above, we are editing Ardent Mills Flour. We are viewing a dual list box. Listed under the Available column are all the Inventory Groups that are available to be assigned to this Item, but have not been assigned.

Listed under the Selected column are all the Inventory Groups that have been assigned to this Item. To move a Group from one selection to another, check the box by the Group or Groups you want to move and then hit the arrow direction "<" or ">" that you want to move them to.

Save or Exit:

Save - Click the save button to save your entry.

Exit - Click the exit button to exit.  If you have made changes that are unsaved, you will be asked, "Are you sure".
