Suggested Quantities Using Count Units - FAQs
Overview:
The suggested quantities and their calculations for orders, transfers, prep, and production are normally shown on worksheets and entry displays by Pack or Batch Size in COGS-Well. However, there is an option to show suggested quantities by Count Unit. This option can be enabled in the Suggested Quantity Types (SQTs) feature as shown below:
The above example uses an SQT that has been configured to show suggested quantities for "Orders" (orders have been selected in the field on the second row). The same option to show suggestion detail in Count Units exits when transfers, prep, or production is selected for an SQT. Please note that this option does not require the selection of the "Use Projected Usage Quantity" option.
Show Suggestion Details in Count Units:
To provide examples of suggested quantity details shown in count units, we will show the impact on Prep features. The impact is the same, or very similar, on ordering, transfer, and production features.
Worksheet:
In the below example, we have enabled an SQT used for Prep (and named "Prep") to show suggestions details in Count Units and we have run the Prep Worksheet. We next entered the parameters for the worksheet, including selecting the Prep SQT, and selected to run the report:
In the example above, the Count Unit name is displayed for Count Units (rather than for Batch Size), and the On-Hand and Projected Quantities are shown in Count Units. The Batch Size is shown and then used for the Suggested Quantity to prepare and the Prepped Quantity.
Using the Breaded Mushroom Burger from the above worksheet, the Count Unit is Each and the quantity on hand and projected quantity are for eaches (burger patties). The suggested quantity to prepare is shown for Batch Size since that is how this item is prepared (22 batches of 32 Each is suggested).
The primary purpose for using Count Units in the example above is to allow the User (often a restaurant manager) to think in terms of Count Units when deciding how many batches to prepare.
Entry:
In the below example, we have enabled an SQT used for Prep (and named "Prep") to show suggestions details in Count Units. We then selected the Enter Prep feature, entered the parameters (including the Prep SQT), and selected next to make our entries:
In the prep entry display above, and like the prep worksheet, the on-hand and projected quantities are displayed by Count Unit. The suggested quantity and entry quantity are displayed for Batch Size.
The on-hand, projected, and suggested quantities fields are in blue which means they can be drilled down for more detail about the calculation. Below we have drilled on calculated on-hand for the Mushroom Burger:
In the above example, the suggested quantity details window is displayed. It includes a column for both Count Unit and Batch Size quantities. It also shows the math used to calculate the suggested batch quantity.
Override On-Hand Column:
Please note that the column with fields to override the calculated on-hand quantities will only display if Projected Usage is configured for a Suggested Quantity Type. If a calculated on-hand quantity is changed, the suggested quantity calculations will change accordingly.
Par Levels:
Please note that Par Levels can be entered in Count Units or Pack Sizes.
