Ingredient Switch

Overview:

The Ingredient Switch feature is utilized when an ingredient is used in multiple Recipe Items and you which to change it to a different ingredient in all or most of the Recipe Items that it is used in.

Ways Ingredient Switch Can be Used:

The Ingredient Switch feature can be used to replace an ingredient with another ingredient (an example is changing from corn oil to canola oil).

It can also be used to change the Recipe Unit Type for an ingredient (an example is switching from using salt by the weighted ounce to by the gram).

It can also be used to change the Recipe Unit Quantity for an ingredient (an example is increasing the portion size for bacon from 1 slice to 2 slices).

Finally, Ingredient Switch can also be utilized as a tool to view all of the recipes an ingredient is used in without making any changes to the ingredient. Please note that any change made using this feature will be "global" to every recipe that the ingredient is used in, but you will have the option to control this.

Things to know!

  • This feature will only be accessible and visible to users who are given access to it.
  • The Ingredient Switch feature makes sense to utilize when you want to make a change across all or most recipe items that an ingredient is used in.
  • Ingredients can be Inventory, Recipe, or Combined Items.
  • Please note that any change made using this feature will be "global" to every recipe item and site that the ingredient is used in, but you will have the option to control this.

Ingredient Switch:

Ingredient Switch can be used to switch an ingredient used in multiple Recipe Items to a different ingredient (an example is switching from olive oil to canola oil). To access the Ingredient Switch function, navigate to Recipe & Sales>Maintenance>Ingredient Switch.  Upon selection, a screen similar to the one below will display:

An ingredient can be an Inventory, Recipe, or Combined Item. Use the search to select the ingredient that you want to switch (you can type a description to search or use the drop-down search). When you select an Item, a screen like the one below will display:

In the above example, Olive Oil has been selected as the Current Item to switch. For the Current Recipe Unit, select the Recipe Unit that applies to the recipes using the Current Item (the reason this is a select field is that you may have used an "Fz" Recipe Unit for Olive Oil in some recipe items and a "Cup" as the Recipe Unit in others).

Next, use the drop-down or search to select the New Item which is Canola Oil, and select a New Recipe Unit type. In the below example, Fz has been selected as both the Current and New Recipe Units because we just want to switch the items (ingredients):

In the above example, Canola Oil is going to be replaced by Olive Oil in every Recipe Item displayed in the grid at the bottom when the Confirm button is clicked. The Current Quantity and New Quantity fields are not changed because we are only switching ingredients.

When we click the "Confirm" button, the change will be made to all of the Recipe Items in the grid. Please note that if there is a recipe you do not want this change to impact, you can modify it in the recipe item grid before you click Confirm.

Changing Recipe Unit Types:

We can also utilize Ingredient Switch for changing Recipe Unit Types. If we originally built all of our recipes that utilize the combined item olive oil in "FZs" (Fluid Ounces) and we now want to take advantage of the Recipe Unit library and utilize "Cup" as the recipe unit, then we can use Ingredient Switch to make the change. Selecting Olive Oil as the Current Item will display a screen like the below:

We will next select the current recipe unit as FZ using the drop-down search and select option in the Current Recipe Unit field.

We next need to select the New Item to be the same as the Current Item. Use the drop-down in the New Item field to again select Olive Oil:

We next need to enter the New Recipe Unit Type. Use the drop-down for the New Recipe Unit to select "Cup" as the new recipe unit. The display will then change to the example below:

In the above example, we have selected a new Recipe Unit of "Cup" to replace "Fz" for the Olive Oil combined item. Please note that the New Usage Ratio Quantity for Cup automatically changed to .125 because there are .125 cups in 1 Fz. Please also note that all of the recipes that use Olive Oil as an ingredient have automatically changed to the New Recipe Unit of Cup.

When we click the "Confirm" button, the change will be made to all of the Recipe Items in the grid. Please note that if there is a recipe you do not want this change to impact, you can modify it in the ingredients grid before you click confirm.

Changing Recipe Unit Quantities:

We can also change the Recipe Unit Quantity for an ingredient for all of the Recipe Items that it is used in. In the example below, we are changing the Quantity used for Bacon from 1 Wz to 1.5 Wz for all of the recipe items that use bacon.

In the above example, we have selected Bacon as the Current Item and the New Item (because we don't want to change the ingredient), and we have selected Wz as the Current and the New Recipe Unit (because we don't want to change the Recipe Unit Type). We have changed the Current Quantity of 1 to the New Quantity of 1.5 Wz.

When we click the "Confirm" button, the change will be made to all of the Recipe Items in the grid. Please note that if there is a recipe you do not want this change to impact, you can modify it in the ingredients grid before you confirm.
