How to Setup the Sidebar - FAQs
Overview:
There are a lot of features in COGS-Well for setup, maintenance, data entry, listings, and reports. The Sidebar Menu "Sidebar" simplifies navigation between these features. Please note that the Main Menu located across the top of the Dashboard remains available when the Sidebar is enabled.
If you are a System Administrator and you and your Users do not see the Sidebar, then it can be enabled in your Company Settings. This process should only be necessary for customers who signed up for COGS-Well before August 2024.
Things to Know:
- The Sidebar does not replace the Main Menu. The Main Menu will remain available for navigation.
- The sidebar can be enabled in your company settings for all users, or you can enable it for specific users only.
- Company Settings can only be accessed by a System Administrator.
- The "User Level" assigned to a User will impact the features they see on the Sidebar.
- The features enabled in Company Settings will impact the features available on the Sidebar.
- When the Sidebar is enabled in Company Settings, all Users assigned to the company will be given access to the Sidebar automatically.
- The Sidebar can also be enabled for a specific User(s) only via the User Setup feature.
- All system administrator features are available on the Sidebar other than the features for Accounting and Standard Export Setup (they can still be accessed via the Main Menu).
Enabling the Sidebar Menu:
If you enabled the Sidebar Menu in Company Settings, then all Users will have access to the Sidebar. Navigate to the Company Menu and select Company Settings. After you select this feature, you will land on the General Tab in Company Settings as shown in the example below:
Select the Sidebar Menu: The Sidebar Menu selection option is at the bottom of the first column on the General Tab. Use the drop-down to select the Default Sidebar Menu (Global) as shown in the example below. Then save your company settings.
Assigning the Sidebar Menu to Users:
Once the Sidebar has been enabled in Company Settings, all of your existing Users, and any new Users, will automatically be assigned the Sidebar Menu.
If you only want some of your Users to have access to the Sidebar, then you should not enable it in your Company Settings. Instead, you can assign the Default Sidebar Menu to a User via the User Setup feature. To access User Setup, navigate to Company Settings and then select Users. An example of the Edit User display is below:
The Sidebar Menu is the last field on the bottom right of the Edit User display. Use the drop-down to select the Default Sidebar Menu (Global) and then save the User. You will need to repeat this process for each User that you want to be able to use the Sidebar Menu:
User Levels: If you have not assigned User Levels to your Users, you may want to consider doing so. User Levels control the features for Setup, transaction Entry, Worksheets, Listings, Reports, Tools, and Exports that a User will be able to see and access from the Main and Sidebar Menus when they log into COGS-Well. Administrators: Most of the features in the Main Menu for Tools, and all of the features for Accounting Setup and Standard Exports can only be accessed via the Main Navigation Menu (they are not included in the Sidebar). Company, Change Password, Report Books, and Accounting Export features are available in the Sidebar. All item-related setup and maintenance features are also on the Sidebar.
