What do the Training Classes Cover?

Overview:

COGS-Well offers free, online training courses. The courses are conducted via Zoom and a COGS-Well training specialist will host the meeting. Customers should sign up for the course or courses they wish to attend via the links below. A Zoom registration invite will then be emailed to a customer to complete the registration process.  

Training Classes: Below is a list of the four classes covered in our standard curriculum, along with the day or days and time or times offered. Our most popular classes are offered twice per week. Please note that the classroom times are showing times for the Central Time zone. Classes are typically under 1 hour:

  • Inventory Management:  Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Thursdays at 1:00 pm. Central Time (click the link to sign up). Note that this class is primarily for System Administrators. 
  • Counting Inventory: Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 2:30 pm. Central Time (click the link to sign up). 
  • Recipe Setup: Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Central Time (click the link to sign up). Note that it is best to wait until your POS interface has been set up.  Note that this class is primarily for System Administrators. 
  • Theoretical, Variance, & Menu Analytics: Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. Central Time (click the link to sign up). 

When to Register: You should register immediately after you have received your implementation update and login credentials from COGS-Well support. Each customer may have up to 3 attendees in the same class. Each class will be limited to 4 customers.

Special Training Classes: Online classes for inventory orders, transfers, production, and commissary features can be scheduled as needed. 

What do the Training Classes Cover:

Inventory Management: This class is for system administrators and/or anyone managing your inventory item database.  This class covers how to view, modify, or add inventory items. It will also explain how COGS-Well automatically adds new inventory items to your database and how our auditors make sure the information is complete.  This class will also include an introduction to Combined Items

Counting Inventory: This class is for anyone who will be managing items in storage locations or taking or entering inventory counts.  The class reviews how to set up storage locations, assign items to storage locations, record inventory counts, enter inventory counts, and run inventory extension reports. 

Recipe Setup: This class is for anyone that will be adding or modifying Recipe Items. The class will explain how and why to set up Combined Items. It also covers setting up prepared and sales item recipes. The class will explain how to use different recipe unit types for an ingredient and how to add more than one recipe unit class to an ingredient.  

Theoretical, Variance & Menu Analytics: This class is for anyone who wants to evaluate theoretical to actual performance or analyze menu item effectiveness. This class also covers the Actual Cost of Sales report and reviews how COGS-Well calculates theoretical cost, usage, and on-hand inventory. The class also reviews the theoretical to actual cost and usage variance reports. The class also reviews the cost and usage variance reports and the menu analytics reports. 

Other COGS-Well Feature Training:

Depending on what other features you want to utilize in COGS-Well, you can schedule classes for the below other features when you are ready:

  1. Inventory Ordering - Ordering can be implemented in several different ways. We recommend reading this Ordering FAQ article before the class.  
  2. Inventory Transfers - Transfers can be implemented in several different ways. We recommend reading this Transfer FAQ article before the class. There is a class for managers and for administrators. 
  3. Production - Here is a link that explains what Production is and what Production Items are: Production FAQs.  
  4. Accounting Export(s): COGS-Well will configure these exports and because each customer is often unique, training on these features is done one-on-one. 
  5. Creating User Menus: User menus enable you to reduce and reorder COGS-Well features for specific end-user types. Please see this link to User Menu Setup
